Orange Kloof to Overseers Coattage – Winter Special!!

The Oversees cottage is a popular accommodation at the top of Constantia Nek – Table Mountain National Park. It overlooks 80% of the entire City of Cape Town and that probably making it the best view out of all the cottages located at the top. It sleeps up to 16 and porterage is available. We’re talking linen sheets, braai and hot showers!

Our plan would be to hike up Orange Kloof, spend a night and hike down via the jeep track and bridal path for an easier descend. Now Orange Kloof is quite untouched and well kept. The Afromante forest is home to the very famous hike hidden in one of the gorges. The location is known as Hells Gates.

Hells Gates is beautiful beyond description and on the bucket list of many local hikers. It’s waterfall location is one of, if not the most unique and mesmerizing Rock formations in Table Mountain National Park. It’s a series of rock pools and waterfalls that cannot be found anywhere else in Cape Town thus giving it the title for Cape Towns best adventure, it’s hard to believe that this location is found right in the middle of a city. You’ll be so close to civilization but feel like you’re hundreds of kilometers away.

We’ll be met by the 5 reservoirs while making our way to the cottage. At the Cottage we’ll have a wonderful afternoon and evening away from it all, everything catered for by the guide.

Itinerary:

• Meet up at 7:30, hand over stuff for porterage, briefing.
• Hike for 5-6 hours
• Afternoon at leisure, dinner
• Day 2 – wake, sunrise and coffee, breakfast
• Pack up, 10am checkout, briefing, hike down 2-3 hours, end

Menu: Day 1

• Lunch : tortillas filled with cream cheese, cucumber, avo
• Dinner : braai, garlic bread and salads

Day 2

• Breakfast : Fruit, nuts, plain yogourt, muesli, oats, muffins

Difficulty level: Intermediate to Hard. There are more than one route option, Theres more technical / strenuous or less technical / strenuous – we’ll keep it exciting and decide on the day and also take it easy on the tough sections and take breaks when necessary. The route down will be less strenuous but tough on the knees of course – shouldn’t take more 2,5 hours at a comfortable pace. We could take the same route up on the first day if you prefer.
