Groot Winterhoek Hike & Wild Camp (21 – 22 March)

Switch off from the world and spend 2 days and 1 night sleeping in the wild!

Groot Winterhoek Nature reserve is found on the mountain range above Porterville – it’s roughly 2.5 hours drive from Cape Town which makes it perfect for a mini road trip!

The area is home to beautiful landscapes featuring stunning rock formations and pristine rock pools. Plus, imagine falling asleep under millions of stars and drinking your morning coffee surrounded by Mountains. It’s such a special feeling!

We’ll ideally camp close to the rockpools. Both days will be entry level distance. But the difficulty level of this multiday experience is ‘intermediate’ – you’ll be required to carry your rucksack for the duration. On day 2 there will be some incline and short steep sections as we make our way up the valley back to the parking lot.

Itinerary:

Friday:

• Meet at Groot Winterhoek offices in Porterville (meet up time TBA)
• Hike mostly downhill towards the river where we will set up camp (4 – 5km)
• Take a break and leave heavy rucksacks at the camp
• Short 1 km hike to another beautiful rockpool – take an extended swimming & chill break
• Head back to camp: diner, swim, relax and stargazing

Saturday:

• Breakfast, coffee and morning swim
• Gather all our stuff and head back to parking lot
