Greyton to Mcgregor 3 day : 04-06 March 2022

Also known as the Greyton McGregor Trail, this 14km hike winds through the Riviersonderend Mountains linking the towns of McGregor to Greyton and is approximately a 2 hours drive from Cape Town CBD.

The scenery is incredible, featuring large rock pools, steep gorges and multiple waterfalls as you make your way through a breathtaking kloof.

When arriving in Greyton we will be welcomed to a comfortable stay at the Eco Lodge for the first night. Get served a delicious dinner prepared by your host and have a relaxing night chatting about the loading adventure days.

The next morning after breakfast, we start our hike off with a relatively steep 3km climb that we won’t rush. After that you are treated with endless vistas and beautiful fynbos which is definitely worth every step.

We’ll take a break at Breakfast Rock and marvel at the valley below before continuing to the majestic Oakes Falls for a well deserved lunch break. Oakes Falls is a two tier waterfall and makes for a perfect dip in the fresh mountain pools.

With our final ascent up an historic mountain pass, we’ll arrive at the cottages where we will spend the night. Boasting breathtaking views of the valley, ending up at the cottage is the perfect refuge after a day of hiking. Soak up the views of the valley, enjoy a hot shower, take a dip in the pool and relax by the indoor fireplace when the weather cools down.

Accommodations :

The Ecolodge offers 2 options, Dormitory rooms(6 beds) and private(double or 2 single beds) The booking price is based on the Dormitory room sharing, you’ll find an additional option when scrolling down to book for a private room. When booking for 2 people sharing you’ll automatically get upgraded to a private room at no additional cost.

The cottages at the top of the mounatin are sharing, each cottage boasts 2 bedrooms: There are either 2 or 3 beds in each room. Every room is equipped with bedding and towels, and even hot water bottles. There are also hot showers and a fully equipped kitchen. That means you’ll basically require only your personal things and a change of clothes.

Please understand that this is actually a luxury cabin for where it is located and most mountain huts aren’t as comfortable.

Check in at Greyton: anytime after 2pm

Distance: 14 km to the cabin and 14 km back to the starting point.

Difficulty: Advanced – Gradual and steep inclines. You will have to be comfortable hiking uphill with a backpack. No technical areas. Endurance will be an advantage.
