A hiker’s heaven! Duiwelskloof hiking trail is situated within the Banhoek Conservancy near Stellenbosch and about an hour’s drive from Cape Town city center.
The hike offers amazing scenery and a full day filled with loads of adventure. There is also a good chance of spotting wild life such as Eland or Oryx.
It starts out as a “normal hike” following a trail with a short incline up to the contour path which is fairly flat for about 4km until reaching the gorge, this is when it becomes magical. It’s hard to explain but sort of feels as if you are in Jurassic Park.
Inside the gorge you are completely surrounded by tall mountain peaks as you hike along the river and soak in the mossy green surroundings accompanied by multiple little rock pools and waterfalls.
We’ll head on up, take a short break at the first waterfall “teaser” then hike about 800m further across small rock boulders leading to the main waterfall where we will have a well deserved break and enjoy the spectacular views.
Please do keep in mind that this isn’t however an easy hike, it does get technical at times and will require a decent level of endurance to complete the 15km trail. With that said, your safety is our main priority and we will do everything to assist you all the way. We recommend that you enquire if you’re unsure instead of assuming.

This was my first hike in a few years and it was absolutely stunning. The guides are friendly, easy to talk to, very accommodating and you can see they love nature. The coffee was a lovely touch and special care was taken to make sure we all stay together… I absolutely would use them again and look forward to my next hike. Yvette has a wealth of knowledge as such a seasoned hiker – was lovely to be in such good hands.
