India Venster to Maclears Beacon – 10 Sep (Intermediate)

If you are looking for an adrenaline filled adventure, this hike is for you!

India Venster is packed with uphill hiking and some technical scrambles, including areas with exposure.

Expect incredible views of Table Mountain, Lion’s Head, Devil’s Peak and the city of Cape Town below the slopes.

When reaching the top you will be rewarded with a complete change of scenery as the views open up to display the back of Table Mountain, this is includes the 12 Apostles, Camps Bay and the Atlantic coast.

The next stop is Maclear’s Beacon, towering at 1086m, the highest point on Table Mountain. Luckily we would have completed most of the elevation at this stage so expect a gradual easy climb to be blessed with magnificent 360 views!

We’ll use the iconic Cable Car as our route back down. (Cost R210 per Adult, not included)

Bare in mind that in the event of extreme weather, the Cable Car may not be operational and in this case we will need to hike down via Platteklip Gorge.

Most people travel half way around the world to do this type of tour in Cape Town. It’s definitely a bucket list adventure.

Hiking Duration : 5-6hrs (depending on pace)

NB. It’s COMPULSORY that you either have steep terrain hiking experience or that you are relatively active. If really terrified of heights, this is probably not for you. But if you’re adventurous and like a bit of a challenge, you can only enjoy it. Don’t believe everything you read online about the route…You’re welcome to enquire from us if you’re unsure.

Difficulty level: Intermediate to Advanced – Approximately 750m elevation gain while hiking to the top.  Including steep sections and using our hands to assist here and there (scrambling). There are also some exposed sections so being relatively comfortable with heights and having an active lifestyle is recommended.

We’ll do a briefing prior to starting the hike to ensure readiness.
