Kalk Bay Caving Experience

The Mountains in Kalk Bay are quite unique and there are many caves and rock formations up there. The main cave to visit is the Boomslang cave. This cave in particular has just enough thrill and adventure to give people a very fulfilling experience. Caving sounds scary but we’ve only gotten good feedback after guiding people on this route. The cave we’ll go through is about 100 meters of winding darkness featuring the most unique rock formations. Most people are really comfortable when in the wide corridor sections of the cave but the thrill of adventure remains huge.
We’ll do a circular route going over, through and between the peaks. The 360 degree views are priceless.
There’s quite a bit of adventure involved but we won’t give too much away right now.
Starting point : Echo Valley – google maps
Duration : 3-4 hrs (depending on pace)
Cave Difficulty level: Entry level distance – Starts out relatively steep but we’ll arrive at the cave after roughly 1.5hrs of walking uphill and taking numerous breaks. It gets a bit technical just before arriving, everyone managers well. Before exiting the cave you’ll do 10m crawl that gets narrow for only 1 meter. Guests usually say that’s it’s the perfect length. If you’re unsure about your capabilities then please enquire.

Absolutely worth it! Very fun and exciting!
Even though I have a fear of heights and small spaces, the technical parts are not bad when you are guided and motivated by the trailfit leader, who was Jody.
The views and the route was breathtaking, even if a bit technical at times.
Would also highly recommend trying Jody’s cream coffee and leaving your coffee at home.
Some of us forgote our headlamps, but Jody was prepared and had a few extra. Good leg workout as well.

A fantastic experience!
There was a bit of scrambling and a short squeeze through the cave which was no sweat with the guidance of hike leader Jody. It was great to have the expert navigation of a Trailfit guide as well as his extensive knowledge of hiking and the trails in the area. This hike also comes with incredible views of False Bay – I definitely wouldn’t miss it!
