We are taking on the 13 Peaks Challenge over the next few weeks with our own special twist. We’ll tackle the peaks one (or two) at a time and reach a new summit each Saturday come rain or sunshine. The plan and routes are set out as day hikes from different locations around the Cape Peninsula.
At an elevation of 857m, Grootkop is one of the most interesting peaks that form part of the 12 Apostles and offers incredible views of the Table Mountain range. Interesting caves and stone faces (two named Grimace and Gape), and patches of soft grass like Katie’s Nest makes this peak an incredible experience and a must do on your hiking list!
We’ll ascend the mountain via Woody Ravine which is a steep 720m climb to the plateau above. From here we’ll follow the Yellowwood Traverse to the beacon of Grootkop. We’ll spend some time exploring the area as there are many caves and rock formations to leave you with a memorable experience and wanting to return and explore more of this off the beaten track route.
